Nebra (SKY DISC)

Sky disc, Middle Bronze Age, 1600 BC
This bronze disc inlaid with gold symbols is the oldest depiction of the cosmos ever found.
It was re-worked several times. Originally it showed the night sky with stars as well as a full moon, a crescent moon, and the Pleiades star
cluster. Golden arcs were later added to show the rising and setting of the sun. During a third phase a third golden arc was added, which is interpreted as being a sun boat. Even later, holes were punched into the edge of the disc and it was mounted.
The original Nebra sky disc is on display in the State Museum of Prehistory in Halle an der Saale (Germany).
