Gobeklitepe

Göbeklitepe, situated in the Southeastern Anatolia Region of Turkey, is a significant Neolithic archaeological site. Inhabited from approximately 9500 to at least 8000 BCE during the Pre-Pottery Neolithic period, it is renowned for its expansive circular structures housing colossal stone pillars—the oldest known megaliths globally. Adorned with anthropomorphic details, attire, and sculptural reliefs depicting wild animals, many of these pillars offer archaeologists rare glimpses into prehistoric religious practices and the unique iconography of the time.
